By the end you can describe how a vector graphic is encoded, using the terms drawing object, property and drawing list.
A bitmap is like a photo of a picture: every pixel, written down. A vector graphic is the instructions for drawing it: "circle here, this big, this colour".
Instructions don't care how big the paper is. That one fact explains almost everything about vectors.
Vector graphic
An image made up of drawing objects, each defined by geometric data (such as coordinates and sizes) and other properties, and stored as a drawing list. The image is calculated from these instructions when it is displayed, so it can be scaled without losing quality.
Drawing object
A component of a vector graphic, such as a line, rectangle, circle, polygon, curve or piece of text.
Property
Data that defines one aspect of a drawing object, such as its position (coordinates), its size (for example a radius), its line colour, its line thickness or its fill colour.
Drawing list
The set of commands that defines a vector graphic: one entry for each drawing object, together with its properties.
