By the end you can explain what subnetting is and why it's used, split an IPv4 address into network ID and host ID with a subnet mask, and decide whether two devices are on the same subnet.
Imagine all 1500 students of a school in one hall, shouting messages to each other. Every broadcast reaches everyone, nobody's conversation is private, and when something goes wrong it's chaos.
Split them into classrooms and each room is quieter, more private and easier to manage. That's subnetting.
Subnetting
Dividing a network into smaller logical networks (subnets). Each subnet has its own network ID, and devices on different subnets communicate through a router.
An IPv4 address has two parts:
A subnet mask shows where the split is. It's a 32-bit number with 1s for every network ID bit and 0s for every host ID bit, written like an IP address: 255.255.255.0 means 24 network bits and 8 host bits. It's often written in shorthand as /24.
