By the end you can describe how a virtual reality (VR) headset makes the user see a 3D world, and how it keeps that world in step with their head movements.
A VR headset has to fool you twice:
Trick one is optics. Trick two is sensors plus a very fast processor.
"Describe how a VR headset gives the user the experience of being in a 3D world." Usually 3 to 4 marks.
The marks are for two images, lenses, sensors tracking the head, and updating the images in real time.
Step 5 is the forgotten one. Sensors alone don't change anything; the processor has to re-render the view, many times a second.
Worked example: Easy first: why two images?
Hold a finger in front of your face and close each eye in turn. What do you notice, and why does a VR headset show each eye a different image?
