By the end you can describe how a packet travels between two hosts in a bus and a star network, and justify which topology fits a situation.
Topology sounds fancy, but it just means the shape of the connections. Same computers, different wiring, very different behaviour when something breaks.
Network topology
The arrangement of the devices (nodes) in a network and the links between them.
Bus topology
All devices are connected to one shared cable (the backbone), with a terminator at each end to absorb signals so they don't reflect back along the cable.
Star topology
Each device is connected by its own cable to a central device, usually a switch.
Worked example: Follow one packet from B to E
Describe how a packet is transmitted from host B to host E in (a) a bus network, (b) a star network with a switch.
